SUMMARY:Ryder Lake Residents - Temporary Fencing Removal
DESCRIPTION:** This event is for Ryder Lake residents only**\nDo you live in Ryder Lake? Are you interested in helping nature and wildlife in your neighbourhood? We have an event coming up that might interest you! Join us and help the Fraser Valley Conservancy remove the temporary fencing installed on Elk View Road. \nIn late February/early March\, the amphibians return to their important breeding wetland in Ryder Lake. There is a crossing structure called the “Toad Tunnel” that runs under Elk View Road. The installed fencing helped guide amphibians to the crossing structure in March and April. Now the fencing is ready to be removed until it is needed again in June/July for the migration of baby toads back to the forest. \n  \n\nWildlife Protection Event – Temporary Fencing REMOVAL\nWe need your help to remove the 150 meters of silt fencing along Elk View Road!\n\n\nWhy It’s Helpful\n\nIn late February/early March\, the amphibians are travelling to their important breeding wetland. There is a crossing structure called the Toad Tunnel that runs under Elk View Road.\nThe fencing helps guide amphibians to the Toad Tunnel so they can safely pass under the road.\nIn May\, we need to remove this previously installed temporary fence!\n\nResponsibilities\n\nBe prepared to spend a few hours outdoors alongside a road.\nHelp remove the fence using tools like shovels and staple removers.\n\nTraining/Equipment\n\nAll training and gear required will be provided on the day of the event\n\nSafety\n\nDress appropriately for warm or wet weather (check the forecast ahead of time!)\nWear sturdy footwear and bring your work gloves. We will have some available if you need them.\nSafety vests will be provided (let us know if you want to bring your own!).\n\nSetting and Location\n\nOutdoors in the right-of-way adjacent to Elk View Road.\nRyder Lake Neighbourhood.\nParking: The mailboxes on Elk View Road.\nThere are no shelter or bathroom facilities on site.\n\nCommitment\n\nThursday\, May 18th\, 2023\n9:00 AM – 10:30 AM.\nRAIN OR SHINE\nThis event may be rescheduled if there is too much rain.
