Amphibian Fencing Installation

Feb 24 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Outdoor – Carry, Walk, Hammer, Staple

In late February/early March the amphibians are traveling back to their important breeding wetland in Ryder Lake. There is a crossing structure called the “Toad Tunnel”, that runs under Elk View Road. The fencing you will install helps guide these amphibians to the crossing structure so they can safely pass under the road.

We’re looking for energetic volunteers to help us install 75m – 250m of silt fencing to direct toads making their annual mass migration.
This will involve installing fencing along Elk View Rd. by hammering wooden and metal stakes into the ground and using a staple gun to secure the fence.

Volunteer requirements:

• Capable of lifting up to 15 lbs

• Comfortable using a shovel, hammer and staple gun

• Able to stand and walk on uneven ground/in a ditch along a road

• Works well in a team and follows instructions

• Over 16 years of age
