A Habitat Healer can be anyone who is actively involved in nature-based volunteer work in their community. Habitat Healers participate in nature-based workshops and on-the-ground training to apply what they have learned in their community and practice independent stewardship.
The community of Agassiz has been stewarding this area since 2022 and continues to care for this beautiful little oasis. The popular Haig Highway walking trail runs between Morrow and Macdonald Roads. This site provides habitat for pollinators with its various native plants like thimbleberry, snowberry, red-flowering currant and more!
The Habitat Healers have been working in this area since 2023, planting over 1000 native trees and shrubs. Our work here runs along the Lane Creek walking trail, at the base of the trailhead by the Mission Library up to the East end of 6th Avenue. Lane Creek has some beautiful habitat for wildlife with native plants like Nookta rose, red-flowering currant, thimbleberry, elderberry and more.
McKee Park became a Habitat Healers site in 2024. Our work here runs along the McKee Park walking trail, from the base of the trailhead stairs on Skeena Avenue to the trail south across the first bridge. We are supporting habitats by removing invasive species and planting native trees and shrubs.
Mission’s second site joined the Habitat Healers program in the Spring of 2025. Habitat Healers have been removing invasive plants like Himalayan blackberry and Yellow flag iris. 500 plants will be installed in the Fall of 2025.
Part of the trail at Fishtrap Creek Park has been getting a facelift, thanks to the Habitat Healers. Tackling Himalayan blackberry, English ivy, lamian, and bindweed, dedicated volunteers are proud to clear space and create habitat for the animals that call this park home. 1,000 native trees and shrubs will be planted here in the Fall of 2025.
