What is the Step to It Program?

Our goal is to raise awareness of how all of us can work together to implement nature-based climate solutions for happy, healthy communities and environments in the Fraser Valley.

Through community engagement, education, and our brand new Fungi Force volunteer program, we are working alongside you to make the change we want to see in the world.

Meet the Step to It Team!

Leader: Gill

Gill was born and raised in Chilliwack. His family owns a small farm in Rosedale where Gill can get all the farm-fresh eggs he could ever want. His hobbies include hiking, mountain biking, and skiing. After seeing how climate change was impacting his favourite recreation areas, he decided to start the Step to It program with his friends.

Planner: Willow

Willow has lived in Agassiz her entire life. Sheenjoys the small town joys of walking down thestreet and saying hello to her neighbours, orshopping at the farmers' markets. Her greatest passions are gardening and homeschooling. When Willow met Gill she learned a lot of nature-based solutions to climate change she could do at home. Now, she is a dedicated Step to It team member.

Shovel: Doug

Doug lives in Abbotsford, after moving from Edmonton 5 years ago. He is a dedicated worker and an even better friend. He enjoys Abbotsford's many local businesses, especially the breweries. When Gill asked Doug to join Step to It he didn't think he would be able to make a difference when it came to climate change. Now, Doug works hard to help the community.

How Can I Participate in the Step to It Program?

There are many ways you can participate in curbing climate change. At the FVC we are bringing attention to the nature-based solutions you can implement in your neighbourhood to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, build resilient local ecosystems, and store carbon.

Plant trees and shrubs

Trees and shrubs pull carbon from the atmosphere and store it away. Consider using native plants to reduce carbon and create healthy habitats.

Use green alternatives

Tools such as rain barrels, solar panels, and electric vehicles change how we use the finite resources of the earth.
